On March 16, 2021, Virginia Steel, UCLA's university librarian, shared a BruinPost announcing the University of California's open access four-year agreement with Elsevier, the world's largest publisher. The agreement, which will go in to effect on April 1, 2021, restores UC's direct online access to Elsevier journals and accomplishes the university's two goals for all publisher agreements:
- Enabling universal open access to all UC research; and
- Containing the excessively high costs associate with licensing journals.
Please refer to the BruinPost for more details on what the agreements means for the UCLA community.
