On March 7, 2023, Vice Chancellor for Research & Creative Activities Roger Wakimoto announced that UCLA Sustainable LA Grand Challenge Faculty Director Eric Hoek has made the decision to step down from his role with the initiative. As faculty director, Eric Hoek led a transformational initiative, expanding its scope to include transportation, while clearly defining the importance of cross-cutting themes inherent within urban sustainability problems.
Effective March 1, 2023, Professor Alex Hall is the Interim Director of the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge. Alex Hall is a Professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. As Interim Director, Professor Hall will provide leadership and vision for the initiative; continue to grow partnerships with faculty, researchers, students, and staff across campus; and engage external stakeholders from government, academic, business, philanthropic, and nonprofit sectors.
