On May 23, 2024, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Darnell Hunt, Dean of Undergraduate Education Adriana Galván, Dean of Graduate Education Susan L. Ettner, and Vice Chancellor for Research & Creative Activities jointly announced that academic appointees represented by the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 4811 intended to begin a strike on May 28 at UCLA.
