On February 22, 2023 Vice Chancellor for the Office of Research & Creative Activities (ORCA) Roger Wakimoto announced three campus wide opportunities for funding:
- Latinx Studies Seed Grants
up to $30,000 — due March 27
As part of the HSI Infrastructure Initiative, the Chicano Studies Research Center in collaboration with ORCA will administer $250,000 in seed grants designed to help launch and support research projects on and/or involving Latinx populations in the United States, as well as to position projects to attain extramural funding. Successful projects are expected to advance the goals of the HSI Initiative by enhancing UCLA’s commitment to supporting scholarship with implications for diverse Latinx communities. - Racial and Social Justice Seed Grants
up to $30,000 — due March 27
As part of the Rising to the Challenge initiative, the Institute for American Cultures in collaboration with ORCA will administer $250,000 in seed research grants on topics addressing racial inequities and racial justice. The grants are designed to help launch and support research projects demonstrably centered on exploring the sources and consequences of racial inequities and social justice with the goal of building the researchers’ capacity to attain extramural funding. - ORCA Acceleration Grants
up to $30,000 — due March 27
ORCA is pleased to announce a new grant funding program, the ORCA Acceleration Grants (OAG). These seed grants are intended to support research and creative activities that expand our knowledge in meaningful ways and drive positive change in society through clear public impact. For the purpose of these grants, the term “impact” is defined broadly to include any research and/or creative activities positioned to have a demonstrable effect and/or influence on the betterment of society.Any questions regarding eligibility or funding can be directed to: orcafunding@conet.ucla.edu.
Additionally, the Public Impact Research Awards has been pushed back to February 27, 2023. Up to four awards of $15,000 each will be made in this cycle.
