When former Vice Chancellor Economou began in his position in fiscal year 2011, a primary focus was to assess the campus’ approach to safety and compliance operations. He recognized an opportunity for increased communication between campus operations and the researchers. He also recognized that the campus might be served more effectively with an increased number of safety committees.

Activities related to reassessing and reorganizing research safety, compliance and operations committees began in FY11.
Current Status
Implemented and part of ongoing operations.
The campus approach to laboratory and other research safety and compliance was enhanced under Vice Chancellor Economou and continues to be a priority for each succeeding Vice Chancellor. There is an Associate Vice Chancellor for Laboratory Safety and most of the reserarch safety and compliance operations committees are supported by the Office of Research Administration.
